Follow This Blueprint to the Best Metro Ethernet Provider!
Metro Ethernet providers can link all of your offices together – no matter which side of town they actually sit in! But with so many different provider options out there, you probably need some help finding the right one.
No problem! Just follow this blueprint:
1. Check all of the Bandwidth options
A good metro Ethernet provider will be able to accommodate even the biggest of businesses. In fact, they’ll offer speeds up to 10 Gbps! So, you’ll be able to have video conferences, download audio files, and anything else you can imagine with ease.
When you’re investigating a potential provider’s Bandwidth, also be sure to find out if they have symmetrical speed. That way, whether you’re uploading or downloading, you’ll be able to do it with ease.
2. Check the uptime guarantee
Here’s a simple fact of the metro Ethernet world – nothing less than 99.99% uptime is acceptable! If a potential provider can’t give this to you, they’re not worth your time.
3. Check to see if you can go point-to-multipoint
If you’ve got several different offices, you can’t afford to settle for point-to-point service. If you do, you’ll only be able to link two offices together, with the rest stuck in some kind of technology black hole! Instead, point-to-multipoint service allows you to link as many offices together as you want.
4. Check the initial fees
If you have to outfit your building (like with a fiber line, for example), plan on having to pay for the construction and labor – and paying for it right upfront. However, some metro Ethernet providers will be willing to waive these costs if you commit to a contract that’s long enough. (Typically, you’ll have to sign at least a three-year contract if you want any hope of getting these costs waived.)
You may also discover that your potential provider charges a fee even if your facility is already outfitted. This fee is called a “cross-connection fee”, and it shouldn’t cost you very much. Just be sure to see if you can get it waived. After all, the less fees you have right in the beginning, the better!
5. Check to see what the scalability policy is
Good metro Ethernet providers will be able to scale your service up or down at the touch of a few buttons. As a result, they’ll be able to make all of your changes within 24 hours of you requesting them.
If your potential provider can’t work this quickly, you can do better!
